St. John's singer-songwriter Amelia Curran is set to return with They Promised You Mercy next week.
The record follows Curran's highly acclaimed past efforts like 2010's Polaris-nominated and Juno Award-winning Hunter, Hunter and her excellent 2012 effort Spectators.
Produced by Michael Phillip Wojewoda, They Promised You Mercy continues to showcase Curran's unique songwriting abilities. Described in a recent press release as "a poised, focused and consummate work," each song allows Curran's "knife-sharp" lyrics to cut through layers of gorgeous, lush-sounding instrumentation.
Opener "Somebody Somewhere" hooks the listener in with "na na na na na's," before delving into a mix of stories and sounds — like the sombre "I Am the Night," which paints Curran as "the queen of the closing bar" or the twangy, country-inspired "Song on the Radio." Closing number "You've Changed" is a return to the sad, simple folk ballads that Curran has come to be loved for, capping off an exciting new collection of songs from the Maritimes songstress.
They Promised You Mercy arrives on November 4 via Six Shooter Records. where you'll also find Curran's upcoming Canadian tour dates.
