'Hitchhiking to Byzantium' is the 3rd album from Australian proggers Anubis. It's the first album that doesn't structure itself around a single narrative or concept, but it does focus heavily on the theme of change, and the struggles that accompany it. In many ways, it's a theme that couldn't be more poignant at the time of the album's creation, as work on 'Hitchhiking to Byzantium' had begun directly after a line-up change for the band. For that reason, the band decided to focus on producing an album that was very much a full-band effort, where heavy writing contributions would be made by all members, and every person would have a say in the direction they wanted the music to go. The end result is a stunning, melodic, memorable, cohesive work of progressive rock that is truly a new high-point for Anubis, and will surely impress many fans of the genre.
