My review (in FFWD weekly): The Time Has Come is a supremely charming lo-fi album from Cassie Ramone, former member of The Babies and Vivian Girls. It’s packed with jangly guitar and melancholy vocal delivery. Each song offers a new guitar melody and interesting theme, some of which are fun and some darker.

Her new album bridges the fuzzy garage rock and dream pop of her two previous bands, and makes the sound more personal by pairing down the amount of instrumentation to vocals and guitar, with an emphasis on the acoustic.

The album is reminiscent of lo-fi West Coast music, like what you’d expect from K Records. With that regional feel, it seems appropriate that Cassie Ramone is releasing her debut on Bay Area indie label Loglady Records.

These eight songs, spanning a mere 23 minutes, are hardly enough to satisfy, but it’s better to leave people wanting more, which this album certainly does. The brevity of the album allows Cassie to highlight a smattering of themes, from the electric and ominous sound of “Joe’s Song” to the cute and sunny “Song Of Love.”

The Time Has Come nears perfection with its grungy and aloof attitude. It will leave everyone wanting more from Cassie Ramone’s new solo pursuits.
