Because the album was written over such a long period of time, it’s about the goods and the bads, the beginnings and ends. Personally, I’m in a good place right now, but there’s definitely anti-love songs on there as well. “Leave a Trace” is the middle finger mic-drop. It’s about that point where you’re like, “There’s no point having this conversation anyways: There will be no resolve, I won’t feel better about it, you won’t feel better about it, no outcome from this will actually change my reality.” It makes me feel better to write about that—I’ve done something constructive with it. You don’t put that on other people, you put that into what you do. That’s always the way I’ve written lyrics. My ex-partners are not friends with me, but I’m OK with that.

Album Preview

Added

Promotional copies of the album have been sent out to a select number of publications. NME is one of them, which published their initial reaction to the album. They aren't actually allowed to publish a full review, due to an embargo from the label.

A few quotes from the preview include;

"It's so punchy you'll find yourself with your first involuntarily in the air midway through"

On the track Down Side By Me, the writer says "Mayberry's voice is joined by a slightly robotic auto-tuned chorus, as if Daft Punk are singing backing vocals through a shower curtain."

Bury It is "A soaring banger with an insistent chorus, this is a crystallisation of everything that makes Chvrches special."

And the final track is "a stately, contemplative closer that tilts at Sigur Ros' dreaminess and showcases Mayberry's voice at its very best"
