Explosions in the Sky's Mark T. Smith and Eluvium's Matthew Cooper are Inventions, and they've just announced their next album. Maze of Woods is out March 17 via Temporary Residence in the U.S. and Bella Union in the UK. That's "Springworlds" above. It follows their 2014 debut.
The digital release of the album comes with a three-track remix EP featuring the Field, Leyland Kirby, and A Winged Victory for the Sullen.
According to the album's press release, Maze of Woods was inspired by the final paragraph of Denis Johnson's Train Dreams, which features a description of a feral wolf boy's howl.
In other Explosions in the Sky news, the band shared a note on their website to announce that they're mostly taking 2015 (their 16th year as a band) off from touring. "This is because we'll be spending most of our time writing and recording stuff for a new album."
