Downwelling is a collaboration between the legendary Godfather of Grunge, Dark Mark Lanegan and Not Waving (the alias of Italian Producer Alessio Natalizia). It might sound surprising to hear the venerable rock vocalist appear lend his formidable instrument to music of such an experimental and electronic nature, but anyone who has followed Mark Lanegan's career over the last decade plus will have noticed a distinct trend toward electronics. The sparse, nocturnal back drop provided by Not Waving provides an exceptional backdrop to couch the unmistakably human sound of the singers voice. Mark Lanegan leans fully in to his Dark Mark persona here, proving again to be one of the great chroniclers of the dark night of the human soul. The album continues a recent run of noteworthy collaborative efforts from Natalizia and was recorded across five years and three European cities.
