Today Marilyn Manson's official web sight and twitter account have announced that the new album (or at least a song from it) We are Chaos will be released 72920. The album was recorded by Manson and Shooter Jennings, both of whom called it a masterpiece.

I never liked Shooter Jennings. I’m not a fan of his style. I really don’t think that he and Manson work well together. I did not like the Cat People cover, the End cover was OK but nothing special. With the We are Chaos single, I feel that the music falls short of venturing completely into a new style and does not fit with Manson. It’s like the music and vocals are at odds with each other and not in a good way. Lyrically and vocally it sounds like a song from HEOL that was left on the cutting room floor. I don’t hate it like I do with everything from Born Villain, but I don’t like it either. I don’t know what the rest of the album will be like oh, but I don’t have high hopes.
Relax and enjoy some change, man. You’re going to deep.
Meh, I would just wait to see how the full record sounds. I wouldn’t take “We are Chaos” as the representative track, even though it’s the title tune. For “Heaven Upside Down”, he also released a first single which was far from the best tune from the record – as much as I loved “We Know Where You Fucking Live” – but it was probably a smart move as a first teaser for its controversy and the promotion it received, completed by the videos that were sent out to fans per email containing an aerial view on their GPS position with the song in the background. “We are Chaos” might do the same trick for being pretty radio-friendly.
Shooter Jennings is a talented musician and exceptional producer looking forward to hearing what he brings to Mansons great discography.
Congrats on not liking a thing
When I first heard the song, accompanied with watching the video, I was in shock. And it wasn’t a good kind of shock.
The video, I still think, is cheesy. Although, it does have a few cool parts, such as in the very beginning. But it quickly segwayed into something I just think looks so bad.
The song, on the other hand, has grown on me immensely. It wasn’t what I was expecting. I was expecting a heavier track, since the title has a kind of aggression to it. But such is not the case. The song is great. The lyrics aren’t awful, albeit a little repetitive. But Manson’s recent work has had that issue.
What I miss Is the production done by Tyler Bates. The production of The Pale Emperor was phenomenal and Heaven Upside Down pretty good as well. Someone on another site had mentioned how all of the sounds of this track are kind of distorted together, which I noticed. But it doesn’t keep me from enjoying the song.
I can respect Manson for going into another direction. He is older after all and has never been the one to stay in one place. It makes me excited to see what the rest of the record has to offer.
Love it!!
if the album sounds anything like “We are Chaos” song, then this album will be total shit. That song was so fucking awful. The production was DREADFUL. if Manson thinks this is a “masterpiece” , then he’s lost his edge completely and is nothing more than a face painting Boy George.
music is subjective, but you’re wrong. your opinion doesn’t matter anyway, literally millions of people will enjoy the album & your dumb comment will be buried & nobody cares what you have to say :)
Right? It’s like congratulations for not liking something, but move on. And let the ones who are excited about it enjoy it. Like, who gives a shit for those who aren’t excited about the album? I’m sure you have other music you’re looking forward to.
It really doesn’t sound anything like the single
Can’t fucking wait. Loved the single, though it was a very unexpected direction, and love the cover art. Something tells me the acoustic version of We Are Chaos is gonna end up sounding a lot better than the original. His acoustic versions always wow me. Shooter is a damn genius too. He’s done it all, from outlaw country to industrial. Their cover of Cat People was great and The End was pretty good.
It’s really growing on me, I’m hoping the rest of the album does not disappoint!
I didn’t like it that much We are chaos song , I had higher expectations , I do really hope that the Album don’t sound like this .
This album is gonna be terrible.
It is great actually…
The cd is in stores now!
It’s only a matter of time then!
Lots of people got their copies since yesterday but no one wants to share it.Selfish c**ts.
Many people has the album already how is it possible that its not leaked yet?
Still nothing ? :(
It’s so good
8 out of 10 songs have leaked, last two upcoming within hours
Omg the first song “red, black, and blue” is so awesome!! The single is no representation of what you’re in store for here!! I’m getting antichrist vibes with a heavy “suck for your solution” feel too! Good stuff!
“Red, Black and Blue” opens with a “Cake and Sodomy”/”Overneath The Path Of Mystery”-style tribal drumbeat. “Set fire to the tree of life”. Pretty Sisters of Mercy sounding. Not bad at all. Reminds me heavily of the harder points of Born Villain with better production – not necessarily a bad thing. By the title I was expecting this to be political, but it sounds like a relationship song.
“Don’t Chase The Dead” has an almost “Mr. Superstar”-esque opening, before… segueing into maybe the best keyboard lick since Mechanical Animals. This is really, really catchy, in a Smashing Pumpkins kinda way. Should probably have been the lead single. I can see the Diamond Dogs influence pretty clear. “If tonight lasts forever/It won’t matter if there’s no tomorrow”.
“Paint You With My Love” sounds like an improved version of “Unkillable Monster” from The High End Of Low. I despised that song, so I’m not predisposed to enjoy this. It’s basically a big Meatloaf ballad. Not a fan, but I think people who enjoyed THEOL are going to like this one a lot.
“Halfway & One-Step Forward” opens with Coldplay pianos and a Nick Jonas(!) reference. Very pleasant. Manson’s voice fits this kind of thing very well – a not-quite-triphop drumbeat accompanied by pianos throughout. The Manson Reddit has compared it to Timberlake’s “What Comes Around Goes Around”, and yeah, but this is significantly better.
“Infinite Darkness” is an Antichrist Superstar throwback, or at least a throwback to the nu-metal period, and it works pretty well. “Soldier, die soon/don’t get in the way/you’re not the hero”? Solid music; too brief to be all that meaningful though.
“Perfume” absolutely rules. It reminds me a lot of Candyass-era Orgy; it has that bass-driven crunch to it. “If you conjure the devil/You better make sure/You got a bed for him to sleep in”. This is rock-solid. “Am I Superman?/Am I superstition?” Holy shit, this is godly. There will be strip shows danced to this.
“Keep My Head Together’ continues the industrial rock/nu-metal theme (at this point I’m genuinely surprised by how few of these tracks are ballads; I expected basically the entire album to be done in a hard country style, and there’s virtually none of that to be found on this). “I fucking love you/I love fucking you/I eat glass/And I shit diamonds”. Alright. Not as great as the last track, but there’s nothing objectionable here.
The leaked version I got doesn’t have the last two tracks.
Other than “Paint You With My Love”, which I think a lot of fans of THEOL-era Manson are going to like, this is really good. I don’t know how I’d compare it yet to the last few records – it sounds less repetitive to me than Heaven Upside Down, though there’s nothing quite as striking as “Saturnalia” on here. The choice of “We Are Chaos” for lead single and title track is baffling – other than PYWML it’s the weakest thing on here so far, by a wide margin. I am glad Manson kept the balladry to a minimum this time. There’s nothing as forced-heavy as “Murderers Are Getting Prettier Every Day” or “Revelation #12”; the ACSS-throwbacks like “Infinite Darkness” and “Perfume” draw more on the industrial, sinister side of that record.
This is really good. My favorite track by a pretty wide margin is “Perfume”, but I suspect the balladry shit is going to be most popular. “We Are Chaos” was absolutely not the right lead-off single – shoulda been “Don’t Chase The Dead”, followed up with “Perfume”.
Best tracks: “Don’t Chase The Dead”, “Perfume”
Worst tracks: “We Are Chaos”, “Paint You With My Love”
I am inclined to say this is the best thing since Eat Me, Drink Me.
bad bad bad ! tnx but NO tnx !! mm.xx
Well… Not sure on this, need to listen to it a few more
How is there no leak yet? People have had the album in hand FOR TWO DAYS! Total BS. This is un heard of
Listened to it last night, right away you can hear what they did if you listen to Manson’s voice closely… They took several unreleased ideas from MA, GAOG, THEOL, BV eras and redid all the Instrumentation and had Manson sing over it but the weird/interesting part is they did keep a lot of his original vocal takes from way back in the day, which comes off sounding kind of strange because you’ll hear his voice now (which is sort of lower sounding) mixed in with his vocal tracks from 90s MA era (Red, Black and Blue, Don’t Chase The Dead, Paint You With My Love) doesn’t sound bad at all, just sort of an odd combo. The production is passable, at times the drums are super compressed sounding and stomp over all the music but I’m not complaining at all. It’s definitely a concept album/B sides type of record. Not bad and I liked it way better than Pale Emperor and Heaven Upside Down which people praise so much, I always feel like I’m missing something.
B sides from MA, GAOG, THEOL, and BV sounds cool though! Loved hearing the original vocal takes they kept in, especially the Mechanical Animals ones.
Better than PE and HU, which everyone praises so much somehow.
I totally didn’t expect it, but it is a masterpiece!
