Arriving on the anxious cusp between the thaw of spring and the blithe field of summer is Grand Rapids trio Heaters’s newest single "Centennial." The opening track off their sophomore album Baptistina, due August 5th, it is a blurry psychedelic surf rock tune that also manages to have well-defined moments of opaque percussion and tension. Riding off the momentum of their 2015 full-length debut Holy Water Pool, Heaters deliver a sound that is more grounded than their previous work, yet floats through the reverberated soundscape in unpredictable ways.
“Centennial is a warped-out chug about trying to keep your head on whilst cruising through spacetime,” the band wrote in an email to The FADER. It’s a somewhat ominous spin on a feel good vibe, with a tantalizing rift that makes you wish you were already in the heat of July.
