If you hail from the UK's West Midlands, home to Birmingham, and claim to play traditional heavy metal, then you better be the real deal. Well, Disarm Goliath are the real deal, and they're back with a new album Wisdom & War and nine tunes in the classic New Wave of British Heavy Metal tradition.

It's a simple plan really. Twin guitar harmony for riffs and leads, a galloping rhythm section, and classic heavy metal vocals, bit screamo, bit screeching, but clean. There's nothing modern about Disarm Goliath. No hardcore or harshness to their music. No annoying death or dirty vocals. Nope. Just classic heavy metal. Guitar forward as well. The riffs rule, and the killer lead solos are crowning element.
Some mention of the songs. Straight forward metal comes the Wrath Of The Gods or A Good Day For Crows. The former with it's flaming guitar start let's you know that the solos will be abundant. The latter blends a moderate pace with some natural bottom end heaviness. For a twist, Oceans Of Space becomes an anthem with vocals over acoustic guitar, leading to erupting riffs in parts and more stunning solos. Old As Sin finds the band dropping in some serious rock groove to propel the metal. Later both groove and gallop define Redemption In Blood, essentially a song that reminds of power metal's old school roots.
All in all, Disarm Goliath's Wisdom & War is a well-crafted platter of traditional "keep it true" heavy metal to be enjoyed by fans of the same. Recommended.
