IIasIt’s been a few years since William Fitzsimmons poured his heart out on 2011’s Gold in the Shadow, and fortunately for fans of the earnest singer-songwriter, time seems to have allowed Fitzsimmons to open up even more on his freshly announced forthcoming effort, Lions.
“Lions is the record I think I’ve been trying to make for a long time,” said Fitzsimmons. “It’s about the most revealing I probably can be. And it has less to do with me than anything I’ve done before.”
Fitzsimmons worked on the record with producer Chris Walla, taking his intimate thoughts and a notebook full of ideas and turning them into a body of work that represents both the happiness and hardships he’s faced.
“I wrote it because talking about shameful, uncomfortable, and otherwise anathema things is why I was put on the earth,” he said. “And these are simultaneously some of the most joyful and hard things I’ve went through and written about. Above all it’s an attempt to be honest. Honesty without giving a shit about how ugly or well-received or repugnant that may make one appear.”
Lions is set for release on Feb. 18. Watch an acoustic video for new track “Centralia” in the player below, and view Lions’ full track list along with Fitzsimmons’ upcoming tour dates at the bottom of the page.
