The Aphex Twin album is getting some serious hype. It seems as if its the perfect Pitchfork album as well, it’s got creative promotional campaigns and a underground-experimental alternative edge to it.
But what people seem to forget is that James discography is filled with a lot of weird and quite frankly bad stuff. I’m not saying Aphex isn’t interesting, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the album is insanely difficult and experimental. In a bad way.

    • It could also possibly be horribly average. A lot has happened in the last decade in electronic music. It’s not like he has to fill a void left by his absence in electronic music.

    • I was expecting a mature funked out album and it seems like that’s what we’re going to get. There was simply no way a fourty something could sustain the psychotic manic ultra-obsessive exploration of the edge of perceivable complexity and schizoid aesthetics. Everything points to him retaining the funk, the melody, the raw sensations that underlay it all, which is as much as I could hope for.
