ALBUM PREVIEW: CARIBOU – OUR LOVE
Caribou’s previous album, Swim, was one of the most acclaimed albums of 2010, and it’s easy to see why. From the first moments of the song “Odessa”, Swim created a swirling, trance inducing experience that elevates dance music to a new place that few have been able to get to.
But now, it’s been over four years since Swim , and Caribou (an alias for Canadian musician Dan Snaith) is prepping the release of his next album, Our Love as reported by Pitchfork.
Even though it’s been what seems like forever since Caribou released music, Snaith has been busy, releasing an album, Jiaolong under the alias of Daphni. Daphni’s sound is much harder and booming than Caribou’s, and it’s very interesting that Snaith is able to explore such diverse sounds across his projects. Jiaolong featured collaborations between Snaith and Owen Pallett, of Final Fantasy and Arcade Fire fame. Pallett will be contributing to Our Love as well, but the extent of his contribution isn’t known at the moment.

Also joining Snaith on the album is Jenny Lanza, whose soulful voice will grace at least one track on the LP when it hits stores on October 8th.
Judging by Our Love’s lead-off single, the blistering “Can’t Do Without You”, this album could be a sort of merging between Caribou’s more smeary, trance sound and Daphni’s harder, more banging style.
As for other info on the album, Snaith has been tight-lipped about it other than releasing the single. The only info directly from Caribou is a short message on the band’s Facebook page in reaction to the success of “Can’t Do Without You”, saying “Thanks so much everyone— overwhelming! Can’t wait for you to hear the rest of the album.”
