Drive, the Alternative Soundtrack

It’s only been a few days since we wrote about Cliff Martinez and his extensive soundtrack work. One of his most famous scores is set to Nicolas Winding Refn Drive. In a very ambitious move, radio host and DJ, Zane Lowe has put together an impressive set of acts to re-score the movie.

Chvrches, Foals, SBTRKT, The 1975, Baauer, Banks, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, Eric Prydz, Jon Hopkins, Laura Mvula, The Neighbourhood and ZCC (Simon Neil) seems to be the perfect fit for a reimagining of the movie. It’s set to premiere on UK’s BBC 3 on October 30th but you can already preview a short teaser trailer and the Chvrches single below.

An album will likely be released, and you can follow its release and pending leak here.

While Drive’s director has himself approved and seem to be excited about the score, there’s been some backlash since the original soundtrack has a cult following. In my own opinion, I think the project doesn’t necessarily aim to improve but to provide an alternative and a creative output for amazing artists. Lowe has responded on Twitter by saying “I’ve read some messages from people who are either confused or angry about #R1Drive. Its important to say no-one is trying to improve here.”

Zane Lowe premiered ZZC’s, which is Simon Neil from Biffy Clyro, track from the new Drive soundtrack tonight. Listen below.
