AAA (トリプルエー Toripuru ei, Triple A; the name AAA stands for the English words Attack All Around) is a Japanese pop band signed to the label Avex Trax and which debuted in September 2005. By now, the group has 33 singles, 7 original studio albums, 3 best albums, 1 cover album and is about to release its 34rd single 「Niji」.
At the beginning, the group consisted of 5 boys and 3 girls, that had all enough experience in the media as they had acted in commercials and had been dancers for other Japanese stars, such as Ayumi Hamasaki and Ami Suzuki. But in June 2007, it was announced that Yukari Goto would leave the band for an indefinite time due to health problems; later, according to statements released by avex records, Yukari officially resigned from being a member of the group due to the reasons established before, reducing the number of members to seven.
AAA was originally planned to be a 6 member group. At first, members included Takahiro Nishijima, Naoya Urata, Shuta Sueyoshi, Shinjiro Atae, Mitsuhiro Hidaka and Misako Uno as the only girl. Avex later decided to add two more girls; Chiaki Ito and Yukari Goto. As songs like BLOOD on FIRE and Friday Party were previously prepared for 6 members, the two girls are only heard in the refrain. But things have considerably changed, and by now, each one of the 7 members has had their own moment to shine.
In Summer of 2005, Avex announced that a very important band had just been formed. Because of this AAA received much attention. From September to December they released a single each month plus a photobook and their very first album, ATTACK, in January 2006. With all the previous advertisement and releases the group did not have time to perform their songs live. However, as each of their singles have a different genre this did not cause a problem with sales.
AAA has also performed the opening for 2007's Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider Den-O. For this single, Climax Jump, they temporarily changed their name to AAA Den-O form.
The number of AAA fans increased considerably when one of their songs (With you) was used as an ending theme for the globally popular anime Inuyasha.
AAA has won many important awards in different categories (such as a Japan Record Award in the Best New Artist 2005 category and a Student Voice Award in the Best Dance Artist category in the MTV Asia Channel), ratifying the huge success the band has got.
