In June 2012, Lott revealed plans to record a Motown album. "I'm going to be heading to New York to work with the guys who did the original Motown records in the sixties to make a new album soon", Lott told the Daily Star. In early 2013, Lott gave further details of the album, and teased a potential collaboration with Bruno Mars: "I've just come from the studio just now, I've been working on it every day. It's more like a soul-y Motown vibe, definitely a departure from my last album. I'm excited, it's my kind of stuff. This time I don't think I'm going to collaborate too much because I did it loads on my last album. Because it's quite a new sound, I think it'll make much more of a statement if I don't do as many collaborations this time around. But I really love Bruno Mars at the moment, his voice is amazing!"
In June 2013, Lott revealed the first single might be released in October, and the album would follow in 2014: "It's more soul influenced and Motown than the others. I'm so excited to be coming back. I really miss touring and meeting the fans. The plan is to release the first single around October and album next year, though that could change." On 3 December 2013, Lott announced that her third album is self-titled, and would be preceded by lead single "Nasty".
