It's a classic Ryan Adams move – Who honestly thought he would only put out one release this year? 1984 is an EP in his Pax-Am 7-inch series. It has apparently nothing to do with his upcoming self-titled album.
The press releases states: "1984 is the next installment in Ryan Adams' Pax-Am 7-inch series and the 10-song 7-inch is an homage to the halcyon days of the earliest releases from Dischord, SST, Touch & Go and their ilk. A concise, intense and completely self-contained musical statement, '1984' was recorded and released completely separate from Adams' upcoming self-titled album."
