Finnish melodic metallers SONATA ARCTICA will release their eighth studio album, "Pariah's Child", on March 28 via Nuclear Blast.
Comments SONATA ARCTICA vocalist Tony Kakko: "As always, it's pretty hard coming up with a name for the new baby. I tried to approach it from many angles; how this is our eighth album and how easy it would be to abuse that fact. All the symbolism of figure eight, eternity and so on. But that just did not feel right, as it's been done so many times. Then I started to think how we'd in ways abandoned our 'totem animal,' the wolf and all what comes with the territory.
"As the music on the album is bowing more towards the 'old' SONATA, meaning more power metal-style elements and wolves in many of the songs in one form or another, it was clear we need a wolf on the cover. An abandoned wolf. A pariah. Or pariah's child, actually. The new generation to bring the old logo back."

Also another statement from Tony Kakko: “There are some instant Sonata-Greatest-Hits songs there, which feels good. I think we reached the result we had in mind, each of us in our own field. We went on to create the next SONATA ARCTICA power metalesque album and I think we achieved it adequately. I have to say that I had drifted pretty far away from those “days of thunder”, that speedy happy go lucky attitude. I was happy to notice this style can still make me smile. It’s good. Music has to do that to me. It also shows the other older songs in a totally new light for me. I can now understand and appreciate why the fans enjoy what we did in the early days.”

The second single “Cloud Factory” will be released on the 28th February. It seems a bit strange that they’ll be releasing two singles just a few weeks apart, not that I’m complaining though!

It’s taking almost as long as the DT leak. I think labels are somehow getting better at preventing early leaks.
I bet that the album will be lekeade before next monday. Actually I remember that SGHN leaked on 14th May, 2013, 4 days before release date so… will be on Monday or before it.

Disappointing from what I hear, but of course I can’t come close to making a concrete judgement on what I’ve heard.
Yeah, at first I was disappointed, too. But now that I’ve listened to the whole album for 4 or 5 times it totally kicked in – such a great album!!
Promo’s have been sent out to webzines a couple of days ago. I’m sure someone will leak it this weekend. Listening to it now I can already say after a few songs I like it a lot better than Stones Grow Her Name.
In all fairness, that’s not exactly saying much.

I gotta say, I’m fairly impressed. It definitely feels like a continuation of Reckoning Night.
Yeah, I also think that this album could have been released between Reckoning Night and Unia. But it also shows some of the ‘vibes’ from the later albums. “Blood” even has kind of similar dynamics as “Deathaura” from The Days of Grays! The gets better with every spin, I’m absolutely impressed!

Let’s pretend this song is a movie for a second. The movie is good from what you can gather, and you want to watch it, enjoy it, immerse yourself in it etc… But you’re unable to disable the film’s commentary.
