How do you defeat leaks? You only release the album to one person.
For the past two years Wu-Tang have been recording an album titled Once Upon A Time In Shaolin which will only be sold to one buyer. The album marks the collectives 20th anniversary, and while they are set to release an album titled A Better Tomorrow, which will get regular distribution - Once Upon A Time is set to travel the world as an art installation and then be sold off to one lucky fan.
According to The Verge, "Fans will be charged a cost to attend a "listening event," where they'll get a chance to hear the album on headphones after being carefully screened for recording materials."
RZA had this to say about the album, "The idea that music is art has been something we advocated for years," says RZA. "And yet it doesn't receive the same treatment as art in the sense of the value of what it is, especially nowadays when it's been devalued and diminished to almost the point that it has to be given away for free."

If the buyer did choose to leak it, then its value would go down. Very unlikely, One can hope though. Perhaps someone close to the buyer can/will leak it.

It’s cool, but I feels it defeats a lot of the ways people appreciate music. Yeah, it’s not treated as art as in people don’t go to a gallery and enjoy it in a specific environment, but that’s not to say it’s not art solely based on that fact. Music is more than just something that people listen to.. they use it to get out of bed in the morning, on a long commute, for motivation, to improve their mood, to have company in their misery, etc. It’s like this is taking even that option away from you, to have a real personal connection, to listen where and when you want… I get piracy is a problem, but this is not the answer.
Amen. Wu-Tang Clan are hurting nobody but themselves with this strategy.

They’re only SELLING one copy, that doesn’t mean there’s only one copy in all of existence. The label executives have copies, mixers and studio techs have copies, friends and family of Wu-members will have copies. Point is, someone will leak it, but t likely won’t be pre-release. They’ll make damn sure that one physical copy is sold before the internets get their grubby hands on it.
There should be a kickstarter campaign to buy and leak this album. Just sayin’

They investigated the buyer and it turns out he’s been finessing his his business partners, it turns out he barely has money at all. In fact he might owe people money. I heard he might actually be forced to release the album to pay back the people he owes.
Mind giving some source for that?
Albums leak one way or the other, and I have a feeling OUATIS will leak, whether someone will find a way to leak it out of Shkreli’s hands or Shkreli will leak it himself.
