Album Review

Added

We review the album on our podcast, The Only Music Podcast. I also play a snippet of one of the new tracks. Listen to episode 7 in the source link below.

Elsewhere, NME gave the album 8/10 saying "That voice is still in gloriously full effect, but Flo curtails the bombast for a more restrained, introspective third album"

I’ve been listening to the album for a week now. As stated before, it’s not my favorite Florence album, but I’m curious to know what you guys think.

I really love it! Each song is a new experience. The minimalistic songs are very well controlled, and the big-sound songs are very well mixed, with new angles in which we hear Flo’s voice.
I did not like ‘Caught’ as much as the rest though.
Queen of Peace is easily the best song of the album, and could probably go up to be one the very best of F+TM.

Have you got any favorite\least favorite song?

I expected more from the album. It’s great but it could be better. Ceremonials was amazing and I think everybody was expecting something somewhat similar.

How Big How Blue How Beautiful from Florence and the Machine is perfect. Once again she delivered with greatness. The songs poured out of her heart and it can be noticed in the lyrics. Marvelous work from Florence.

Highly enjoyable album , although as stated before different from the previous albums. But that isn’t a bad thing, actually I enjoyed it to the point I may consider this as my favorite album for them but still there big hit single are the best.

I think I prefer HBx3 over Ceremonials. That record sounded like it was drowning in its lush production (that talk about water, huh?). HBx3 does inherit a lot from Ceremonials, but it is cleaner. Much cleaner. It is stripped down, yet tastefully dressed in newly found musical accessories. Flo can’t sound the way she did on Lungs anymore. And though I think I’m always going to miss the rawness of her first record, that’s okay. It’s not like I can’t go back and re-experience the chills!

Still the new record is a blissful demonstration of clever melodies and sharp lyrics. It has more space to it, and a lot of that space is left unfilled. The atmosphere of love and loss wraps around you, you can taste the whole palette of mysteries. That’s a soundtrack for both quiet reflections and mad dancing (or, you know, awkward jumping around).

It’ll stay in my iPod for a while, for sure.

I can’t get enough of it! What Kind of Man, Queen of Peace, Long & Lost, there are some masterpieces on this one. Lungs will always be that “first love” but HBHBHB is probably my favourite FATM album.
