One last encounter before parting, to someday meet again at a time and place as yet unknown. Farewells often lead to new beginnings, and the chance to strike a new balance. In the voices of Maxime Barlag and Samgar Jacobs, and the guitars of Danny van Tiggele and Tom Broshuis: balance plays a vital role in the music of Mister and Mississippi. They complete each other within the music, their distinct sounds at times blending together as one. The songs on their new album are full of depth, creating space for new shades of colour in their arrangements, such as the addition of horns and strings. The album is a voyage, dynamic and and at times overwhelming, that reveals the presence of a band with unmistakable international promise.
The theme of farewell, hope and expectation emanates throughout the lyrics, sound, melancholy and passionate climb towards musical summits. This album is dynamic and full of emotion, taking the listener through a whirlwind series of narratives. The band was in excellent form during recording with producer Reyn Ouwehand in his studio, The Church, but the past two years are proof that the band knows how to impress from the stage as well. With this new album Mister and Mississippi will be putting together a powerful live show that will undoubtedly inspire their audiences once again.
In their early twenties, the foursome became acquainted with the spotlights through their support shows for Blaudzun and Patrick Watson. The band quickly won the hearts of V2 Records as well as those of indie and folk music-lovers in the realms of Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and Sigur Rós. Two years on, their mantelpiece in Utrecht is now decorated with various awards and prizes, most notably a Mega Hit, 3FM Award and an Edison Award. Other crowning moments for the band include their sold-out show at Tivoli Oudegracht (the holy grail for every musician in Utrecht) and the overwhelming response they received at their Lowlands show. Memories from the past provide inspiration for new beginnings.
