This record has been on the cards since Hemina's debut album 'Synthetic' was released back in 2011. Back then, they had the skeleton of an album that was going to be their second, but the complexity of the music and depth of the concept saw it get pushed back and instead the band focussed on and released 'Nebulae'.
Then, with the arrival of Nathan on drums bringing a new element, and the energy of returning to playing live shows after a long hiatus, Hemina felt the timing was right to return to 'Venus'. Whilst it's safe to say the conceptual seeds were there for it back in 2011, it is an entirely different beast today and an embodiment of the collective four that is Hemina in 2016.
The past five years have been a journey towards building this album to be the most the band members could put into music. From their ambitious "proggy" beginnings on their first releases; 'As We Know It' and 'Synthetic'; to developing their sound on the more alternative and concise 'Nebulae'; Hemina have now found our sonic feet and what they feel is the definitive Hemina lineup with 'Venus'.
The band says: "Writing 'Venus' has been the most collaborative experience so far, with Doug, Mitch, Nath and Jess all contributing to the songwriting process. So although many of the flavours and sounds will be familiar to those who know us, we most certainly are treading new ground and this is the most adventurous we have been."
"This album was entirely self-recorded by us, with Dougie and Nath being the main drivers behind the production, engineering and mixing with the exception being the mastering of the album by Ermin Hamidovic (Periphery, Devin Townsend and Plini) which provided the final polishing touches."
