Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new song to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from new Heavenly Recordings recruits Night Beats.
Seattle three-piece Night Beats step out of a dusky crime thriller soundtrack. Their rough-edged, night-cruising take on trusty rock ’n roll has the hallmarks of a violent, all-thrills montage, and there’s no messing around when it comes to new song ‘Sunday Mourning’.
Taken from the group’s new album, ‘Who Sold My Generation’ (their first on Heavenly Recordings), they merge scorching guitar lines with distant vocals that oversee the scene. Danny Lee Blackwell leads proceedings, dark in execution but never afraid to switch gears when it’s needed.
‘Who Sold My Generation’ follows releases on Trouble In Mind and Burger Records, the latter of which put out Night Beats’ first two LP’s on cassette. They remain an under the radar gem, but chances are that won’t remain the case for long.
