Prolific LA pop punk band Weezer have hinted at the release of a new album later this year. According to an interview last year with Upset Magazine, the album would be titled "The Black Album", perhaps as a companion album to their "White album" that dropped last year. This rumor was made even more valid with the release of a new single on March 15th, called "Feels Like Summer". The video featured an all black background, which seemed to be emphasizing the color. Rivers Cuomo said of the Black album: “The next album is going to feel like an urban environment, night-time and gritty and hopefully a lot more modern sounds, synthesised sounds, samples maybe. I like to break away from the distorted power-chord thing but it’s hard ‘cos it works so well.” Rivers also tweeted that he had submitted more than 13 demos to his label. If released, "The Black Album" will be the band's eleventh album.
I don’t care what people say. I’ll fully support this LP, as this track is phenomenal.
wtf is this…what happened to Weezer
What a steaming pile of a track. Weezer jumped the shark a while back though so not surprised. Used to be an actual rock band, now they are just a poppy mess.
Someone should edit this, Feels Like Summer is no longer part of the Black Album as it’s featured in their new album that was released before this: “Pacific Daydream”. Hoping BA’s the real deal, I like what they’ve described it.
via reddit:
The Black Album will not be announced tomorrow. Instead, we will get a single titled ‘Dry As The Sand.’
We will also get an album announcement, but it will not be the Black album. I can confirm ‘Cardigan Disaster’ will be on it, as well as two other songs. ‘Close To Your Lips’ and ‘Beach Bum’. Cardigan Disaster is a Black Album sessions song. Close To Your Lips is very synth based, similar to This Is Such A Pity or Jacked Up. The Toto covers will be on the deluxe edition though, however that won’t be released until after the Pixies tour
what a soyboy lmao
Apparently they gave up that (good) idea of “back to the shack”
“Weezer” and “pop punk” should not be in the same sentence.
Weezer pop punk.
:)
I actually enjoyed this album. The middle of it starts to drag a little bit, sure, but I really enjoyed the first and last couple songs on this thing. Overall, it’s a 7/10 for me. Definitely my favorite Weezer album to come out in a while.
The Teal Album was fine too, but it’s a cover album so I’m not counting that.
