Wolf Alice are set to return with The Clearing, their fourth studio album, dropping August 22. The band leans into a sleeker, more confident sound this time—still rooted in alternative rock, but with a clear nod to '70s pop and glam. Lead single “Bloom Baby Bloom” is bold and swaggering, while “The Sofa” shows a more introspective, grounded side. Produced by Greg Kurstin and written between North London and LA, the record explores themes of maturity, identity, and reinvention. With an arena tour lined up and a fresh label deal, this feels like a defining moment for the band—ambitious but grounded, and ready to shake things up again.
The first new entry in a very long time!
So far, based on the singles we’ve gotten and some of the early reviews that are coming in, this album is shaping up to be just as great as “Blue Weekend” (2021) in my opinion. I’m especially loving the more ’70s-esque, Fleetwood Mac inspired approach they seem to have take this time around, even though I will miss the more dream poppy, shoegazy vibes of their previous albums. But I do appreciate when artists experiment with new sounds and genres to keep things fresh in an attempt to evolve into something more than they currently are. Either way, I can’t wait to finally hear this in its entirety — four years is a long time to wait with zero new material being released within that time span (I wouldn’t count the 2022 “Blue Lullaby” EP as being truly “new material” since it just consisted of stripped down, live studio versions of a handful of songs from “Blue Lullaby”).
