When Cold Cave frontman Wesley Eisold announced a new single-song 7” entitled “God Made the World”, he accompanied it with an upcoming tour announcement and a gentle yet firm Tumblr post that he was happy making music alone for the time being. “For now,” he wrote, “know my heart is extended to you whom I do this for.”
And “God” is a fitting sermon of love indeed, a tentatively uplifting departure from Eisold’s industrial-strength Oceans With No End single. New wave-y guitars act as the sinew holding Eisold’s thin, aching murmurs to a racing beat that nearly runs away from him. “God made the world, but I made this song,” he sings, adding “for you” only after every third repetition, as though he’s afraid of opening himself to someone else.
This years string of releases from Cold Cave have been amazing. A Little Death To Laugh EP, Oceans With No End 7″, and the new God Made The World 7″ are all have great songs!!
