2017 marks three years since Benighted's last album Carnivore Sublime, though the group generally goes about three years between releases anyway. Now Benighted is back with a new album called Necrobreed, due out February 17 via Season Of Mist, and here's the brand new track "Versipellis" today!
The song is Benighted doing what it does best – being the aural equivalent of a power sander directly to the face, followed by a bucket of rubbing alcohol. This will also be the band's first album with drummer Romain Goulon (ex-Necrophagist), guitarist Emmanuel Dalle (Horgoth), and bassist/vocalist Pierre Arnoux (ex-Winds Of Torment). Vocalist Julien Truchan had this to say about the track:
“Here we go! 'Versipellis' is the first track to be unleashed from our new album 'Necrobreed'. We are extremely proud to reveal this brutal crusher, which is backed up by the insane pounding of our new drummer Romain Goulon, whom you might know from NECROPHAGIST. 'Versipellis' represents one of the two songs on this album that come with French lyrics – don’t tell us, you did not notice – and represents a part of this record's concept that revolves around a schizophrenic, who stitches dead animals to his abdomen in a ritual to 'give them birth' and builds his own morbid family! Enjoy and share! Stay sick!”.
