Summer Moon it's the band of the bassist Nikolai Fraiture from The Strokes, with the members Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction) on drums, Camila Grey (Uh Huh Her) on keys/vocals and Noah Hamon (The Airborne Toxic Event) on guitar.
In September, the band did some gigs in L.A. to release the single "With You Tonight" which was released on September 16 of that month.
In a recent interview with Noisey, Fraiture discussed the origins of Summer Moon’s music and why he decided to team up with his friends in order to make music.
“I had some songs that were going to be the second solo album for Nickel Eye, but then I kind of got lonely and decided to play with some other people,” he said.
“The most important thing to do for me was to do something different and not the typical band setting,” he added. “Even having two girls and two guys, it’s an interesting dynamic. We have good chemistry, which I believe is super important, you know, almost 70 per cent of the band’s identity falls on that. It’s eclectic, diverse, and really fun.”
Released in Oct. 25, the video of With You Tonight was shot with real-life NYC magicians. The interactive VR video was shot by Ben Bernstein.
Speaking in a statement about the video, Fraiture said; “The video is about two people coming home from a dance ball and stumbling into a strange, occult world filled with bizarre characters all displaying their mystical powers.”
He continued, “The VR lends an eeriness where you lose your sense of reality and become completely immersed in the experience. You can explore around so you never see the same video twice. It feels like Sleep No More in one room.”
Initially in 2014, the band had as members of Au Revoir Simone (Erika Spring), and the Like (Tennesse Thomas) and Lewis Lazar, but they’ve been pretty sparing in terms of actual recorded output.
