After the tragical events on drummer Neil Peart's Life, RUSH returned to the world of music in 2002 with VAPOR TRAILS, a strong album that depicts many of Neil's stories and thoughts from his travels on the road between 1997 and 2000, where he decided to travel across the whole American Continent on his motorcycle. Bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson have always declared to have second-thoughts on the quality of that album, which was unlike any other work the band has ever done. The album had so much energy and power into it, but a mixing with excessive clipping always bothered many of the purist fans, some of which did not even finish listening the album, declaring it "Unlistenable", while others seem to be OK and even like the loud mixing on the original record. Since 2006, rumours have been floating around the internet of a new remixed version of the album, and in 2009 a compilation album included remixed versions of songs "One Little Victory" and "Earthshine", both from Vapor Trails, which were received quite positively by the fans. This led to the full album finally being restored and remixed in order to get a new, clearer mix. "Vapor Trails Remixed" is the result of these efforts, which again, have bothered purists (arguing that the album's original mix was there for a reason) and pleased some fans who did not enjoy the original mixing. Some like the old one, some will enjoy the new one, but any Rush fan (and even any Rock and Metal fan) must give this new version of the album a listen, and judge by what their ears and soul feel.
Samples sound great. Maybe now this album will finally get the respect it deserves.
Rolling stone is streaming the entire album and it’s outstanding
It was really the equivalent of a diamond in the rough, for me. This album was overlooked because of the shitty mix/master. But, this new release proves how awesome of an effort this album is.
