The Field Cupid's Head

Due out at the end of September, Cupid’s Head deviates from the path taken by the ethereal Swedish producer known as Axel Wilner on his last two albums, featuring no session musicians or guest vocalists and was recorded using only hardware. A press release says the album – which is surprisingly short at six tracks – explores a “darker and slower pace,” than his previous work, though his fondness for drawn out looped productions remains if a quote attributed to the producer on the press release is any indication.

“When I started to work on Cupid’s Head it was quite awkward. I felt that I had nothing to put into a new album and I´m not the type to sit down and force something out in the studio. But then, after a few modest attempts, I got a first loop together and running which turned out (in a short time) to be “No.No” It was a revelation of sorts as making it felt new to me, and different, and that’s when it all came out.”

The news represents the end of a notably quiet period for Wilner, whose sole original music contribution since his 2011 album Looping State Of Mind has come in the shape of a free digital track ”Comenius Garden” released as part of an [adult swim] compilation. Kompakt’s announcement marks the fifth album the Cologne operation has released in 2013 as they continue to celebrate 20 years of being in the music industry.
