In this quick in-studio interview with ÜberUrban, Tariq speaks on his experience at Late Night With Jimmy Fallon as the front-man of houseband The Roots as well as a smorgasbord of other upcoming projects he’s got on the front, back and side burners. Those include, but are not necessarily limited to: a couple film projects which are “in the can,” a collaboration with the shoe company Creative Recreation, some branded eyewear with Moscot, a line of suits with Robert Graham, a memoir co-authored by Maori Karmael Holmes and Jeff Chang, and last but not least, a solo album tentatively titled The Talented Mr. Trotter (indeed). We’ve known. of course, that this thing was in the works but Thought-fanatics can take heart from his detailed description here of blues-oriented songs (yes, as in, he’ll be singing) that he is currently writing with Raheem DeVaughn and Ray Angry. He’s also in the studio working with Tunde Adebimpe of TVOTR and Jim James from My Morning Jacket, all unrelated to a new Roots record. And then there’s his philanthropic activity with GrassROOTS.
