NME gave Currents a respectable 8 out of 10 and mention quality on dips during two of the album's tracks. They've noticed a change in Parker's sound and mention that it's not what you might expect. "Fuzzed-out guitars simply aren’t where Parker’s head is at now, which strikes us as a fair trade-off from a producer pushing at the outer reaches of his talent. From the crisp, hip-hop accenting on the drums to the full-bodied bass and vivd synths, ‘Currents’ is an audiophile’s wet dream."
An album download leak of Currents is likely due any day now since promotional and review copies are currently circulating.

leak must be coming out soon now then :) i swear nme give 8/10 to every album these days
Mojib, wait how do you know promos are out there?? Do you know people/or someone who received one or something?
Very simple: Magazines all over the world are making reviews of the full album. NME was the first of posting one.
So basically what your saying is, no one else heard the full album before NME did?
It doesn’t matter if NME, Mojo, Rolling Stone or a small music paper in some small town heard it first. The point is: If reviews are being published, there are promotional copies around.
Okay, thanks for clearing things up
Can’t wait!!!
Any day now…..
the wait is killing me
I’m soooo looking forward to this, won’t be long now!
Just got an email saying it’s leaked, logged in and it says it hasn’t.
:(
Never mind, it’s legit.
YEEAAAHHHH
Just got it off ‘Tenemos un Papá Pirata’ (Facebook Group).
I know how I’m spending this Sunday!!
Loved every single they released, but a few of the songs on the album are a little miss. That’s just my opinion off of the first listen though, I’m sure they’ll grow on me.
I see this album being divisive amongst TP fans.
Couldn’t agree more – I love tame impala, but I’ve always found myself preferring their non album stuff, and the style of this new album suits me even more. I can totally see why some wont like it though.
I’m loving it. I guess time will tell who enjoys following Parker’s progression or who enjoys the more psychedelic rock side of their sound.
I think Parker is progressing in the right way, it’s a completely different sound but it’s maintained an element about it that is Tame Impala. It’s when bands like Mumford and Sons suddenly change in a way that is basically a middle finger to their fans, that’s what i can’t stand.
all in all, a nice and soothing album, though i cannot see myself getting into ‘past life’ in the near future
Fucking album of the year? Yes, AOTY!
groovy af
loved it
Very nice stuff.
At first listen I like this album, but I need more listens
This album is f**king awesome. With those little touchs of rnb, making it so special. And Kevin went all the way with the synths… That last track is heaven, I love it!!
AOTY.. so far! Disciples and The Less I Know the Better are my favorites. And that breakdown @ 3:05 on ‘New Person, Same old Mistakes’ is perfection. I love ittt. Kevin Parker deserves more recognition, he’s a brilliant producer/musician. 9/10
Very cool sound on this new one. The momentum this album had really worried me and I thought it would ruin it, but the album held its own. Their last two LPs could not be touched in terms of greatness (or sound for that matter) but Parker did a great job on this one. Overall, good album but they do a GREAT job with it live. I am not sure where they are with tour right now, but if you get a chance to see them support this album take it. Their ability to blend these songs with the songs of album’s past really impressed me, and the diversity of the crowd was electrifying. You had one group who really supported their new album heavy, and others who were strictly there for their older music. It was a great blend and added to the atmosphere.
«I can just hear them now // “How could you let us down?”»
Kevin already knew some people wouldn’t enjoy Currents as much as the other albums, but that doesn’t really matter does it.
It’s definitely on my 2015′ Top 3, such a great solid album.
Quite the shift from their regular sound, but still good anyway!
God, I need new album like drug addict needs their fix lol sorry but Kevin is such beast. One of the most talented out there today. Maybe next year hopefully. I understand he needs time but im thirsty in the desert lmao
