Madison, Wisconsin’s The Fine Constant are without a doubt an archetype of the tech-worshiping prog metal scene that has come into prominence of recent years. The young instrumental trio of Sarah Longfield (guitar), Steve Meyer (drums), and Steve-O Wilkes (guitar) conjure the jazz-infused percussive guitar work of Animals as Leaders, the picturesque soundscapes of Scale the Summit, and the playfully ethereal melodies of guitar virtuoso Plini to create an all-encompassing sound of modern kaleidoscopic musicianship. The band’s new record Woven in Light — which drops this Friday, April 10th — continues in this tradition of experimental know-how with a more finely-tuned approach to songwriting that bleeds together passages of spacey electronics and intertwining guitar melodies.
