Deap Vally teased their return late last year with the release of their feral single “Royal Jelly”. Now, the Los Angeles garage blues duo have officially announced that their sophomore album, FEMEJISM, will drop September 16th via Nevado Music.
The follow-up to their 2013 debut, Sistrionix, this new record was produced by Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs. As another early listen, the band has shared the video for “Smile More”. Described as a “fuck you anthem,” the sing-talk grinder sounds like the head of an axe being dragged through the dirt, dangerous and empowering. With her shiftless snarl, frontwoman Lindsey Troy rejects the idea of being someone else’s “reflection” or taking their “direction.” “I am not ashamed of my mental state/ And I am not ashamed of my body weight,” she sings. “And I am not ashamed of my rage/ And I am not ashamed of my age.”
