The self-produced, self-managed guitar sensation has developed a worldwide following as a result of his three independently released EPs, a corresponding transcription book and a string of sold-out shows in the U.S. with Intervals. Plini, whose videos have amassed more than 5 million views on YouTube, is now on a festival and club tour with Animals As Leaders and Intervals. You can check out their dates—plus the track list for Handmade Cities—below.

Plini's fretwork has garnered praise from top players across the globe, including none other than Steve Vai. “When I saw Plini play, I felt that the future of exceptional guitar playing was secure,” Vai said.

The album features world-class performances from drummer Troy Wright and bassist Simon Grove (The Helix Nebula) and artwork by long-time collaborator Alex Pryle.

“I imagine each of these pieces as soundtracks to different narratives and urban spaces," Plini said. "Some are real, some are imaginary, some are both. When we were recording drums, there were many moments where Troy was interpreting certain rhythms completely differently to me. In the same way, I had a very specific concept for this collection of tunes and artwork, but I find it exciting that, being instrumental music, where it takes the listener could be completely different to what I intended.”

Coma Cluster Void is back once again, this time with their low-tuned and absolutely destructive new single "Plague Devourer." The song is from Coma Cluster Void's upcoming record Absurd Romanticism, due out in March 2024.

"'Plague Devourer' really showcases the dynamic and gnarly direction of the album as a whole, with dark and chunky riffs at the fore, but with an overall natural and tight sound, and where the vocals from Austin, Mike, and myself, darken everything in the music further," stated vocalist Lindsay O'Connor.

Norwegian progressive metal pioneer Ihsahn returns with his latest release, ‘Fascination Street Sessions’ EP on March 24 via Candlelight Records/Spinefarm.

Ahead of the new EP Ihsahn has also released the first single “Contorted Monuments” which you can check out below.

Known as a constantly evolving artist who loves to transcend boundaries, Ihsahn’s musical journey has been relentlessly fascinating and frequently revelatory. With his penchant for collaborative projects and fascination with production, this new three track EP, featuring two new original songs and one cover version, is the direct result of Ihsahn joining forces with URM Academy’s online educational program for music production and producer and engineer Jens Bogren (Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Powerwolf) of Fascination Street Studios.

Comments Ihsahn: ‘I´ve been working with Jens and his team for mixing and mastering for over a decade, but this course spans from pre-production to final master, so I wrote some demos and had Jens be involved from the very start.“

Joining Ihsahn on this project was his long-time drummer Tobias Ørnes Andersen and keyboardist Øystein Aadland, who spent ten intense days at Fascination Street Studios recording the songs. Øystein Aadland also adds warm and gentle lead vocals for the track ‘The Observer’ whilst Jonas Renske of Katatonia recorded guest vocals to the song ‘Dom Andra’, a cover of a track by Swedish band KENT.

Throughout the whole experience the URM Academy team captured everything on video with Jens Bogren adding commentary to the production techniques used, with detail on mic placements, preamps, drumhead tunings, sharing his methodology and drilling down into what goes into a recording such as this.

Ihsahn adds: “The idea was to capture high end recordings of real instruments in great rooms, and we had an amazing setup for drums, guitars, bass and even a vintage Hammond organ with Leslie, Wurlitzer, Rhodes etc, recorded through Fender combos and analogue pedals etc.

“This was an amazing experience, and very educational, as I love everything related to music production. Both the Fascination Street and URM teams were incredible, and I believe everyone involved had a great time, in spite of 14–16 hour workdays. I´m very happy with how everything came together and for those interested in the technical aspects of how it was made, there will be a thorough course coming soon at URM Academy.”

ONI have announced a new album!

Titled Loathing Light, the upcoming album from the progressive metalcore project is the long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s Ironshore and is scheduled to be released in June this year, via Ironshore Records.

The upcoming album was created by singer/lyricist Jake Oni, together with his closest allies, producer Josh Wilbur [MEGADETH, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, GOJIRA] and LAMB OF GOD guitarist Mark Morton.

Speaking about the upcoming album, band mastermind Jake Oni says, “the songs are very much written from the first person, with a lot of ‘I’ and ‘me’ in the lyrics as opposed to ‘us’ or ‘you. The music encompasses many different vibes, both light and dark. I really challenged myself to address difficult things I’ve gone through over the years.

Mark [Morton] helped me through a lot of stuff with mental health and addiction, things he’s gone through himself. He’s definitely been a big support for me. I worked with him before with a full band, but this time, it was just he and I, writing an entire album together, which was killer. I don’t want anyone in there besides Mark and Josh when I’m recording vocals. They get what I can do. They know my limitations and how to utilize my talents like nobody else really can fully. Music is such a gift. If you can make music, and people respond to it? I’ve learned not to take that for granted. Count your blessings because the opportunity to make music is such a great one. We should always be grateful. Because it’s the coolest job anyone could do.”

Alongside the announcement of the new album, ONI have released a new music video for a new song lifted from the upcoming album; Secrets. The new song features guest vocals from LAMB OF GOD‘s Randy Blythe and IGGY POP and is the third single to be released from the upcoming album; following on from War Ender and The Lie.

Jake had initially invited Randy Blythe to bring his vocal skills to Secrets and as the song came together, the idea of a second guest voice to add another dimension to the track was discussed. “IGGY’s vocals are so iconic and instantly recognizable, his style is what we were after. But we figured, let’s see if we can get the man himself to check it out?” They did, and the STOOGES legendary leader and ‘Godfather of Punk’ loved the track. Jake continues, “he came down, we had some food and just chilled. And then he did his thing all over the song. He asked me for ideas about how to approach it, which was just crazy and cool. It all worked so well and came out sick.”

Fellow guest, LAMB OF GOD‘s vocalist Randy Blythe adds, “it was awesome to work with Jake again, and of course the usual suspects, my compatriots Mark Morton and Josh Wilbur – always a good time. But to be on a track and film a video with one of my biggest influences as frontman, the OG godfather of punk and living legend IGGY POP? Completely priceless.”

Australian alt-metal group Twelve Foot Ninja have not only announced their new Vengeance album alongside a music video for the new song "Start the Fire," but they're also pairing a high fantasy novel topping 1,000 pages — The Wyvern and the Wolf — and a comic (also named Vengeance) — with the upcoming record's release.

"'Start The Fire' drew lyrical inspiration from Todd Phillips and Scott Silver’s portrayal of the Joker. When you start treating people according to broad prejudice, they’re left with little reason not to become what they’re supposedly guilty of already being. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy," said guitarist Stevic Mackay.

Regarding the must-see music video (watch further down the page) for the prog-leaning new song, he added, "The video concept revolves around the threat of total annihilation. The strung-up band is being injected with a copper-based enzyme that, when mixed with human blood, can be extracted to power up current collector fuel cells (purposed for reanimating Primordian bio-technology). The band’s performance is a shared, mutual delusion. It’s all pretty straight-forward, really."

We told you it's a must-see.

As for that towering fantasy novel, a press release briefly summarizes, "Set in a grim and savage world, The Wyvern and The Wolf tells the tale of an orphaned samurai boy named Kiyoshi who is adopted by the ruthless leader of a clan of ninja."

Written by Nicholas Snelling in partnership with the band and aims to serve as more than an origin story with its hard-hitting storyline and sense of world-building inspired by the original Twleve Foot Ninja concept conceived by Mackay and his partner Fiona Permezel.

"This is an exorcism of content that’s spent a decade in gestation," Mackay stated.

"'Catharsis' is close to what it feels like to finally share Kiyoshi’s story; and I guess respond to all questions pertaining to our name — all this time, so many have thought ‘Twelve Foot Ninja’ was tongue-in-cheek, when in actuality, the story's genesis occurred a year before the formation of the band. I really hope our fans enjoy the vastness of what we’ve created, and we’re able to continue to surprise people with new methods of storytelling".

ZEAL & ARDOR have announced a new album!

The upcoming album, a self-titled effort, from the black-meets-blues metal band is the follow-up to 2018’s Stranger Fruit and is scheduled to be released in February next year, via MVKA.

The upcoming album was recorded by Marc Obrist and band mastermind Manuel Gagneux at Hutch Sounds and mixed and mastered by Will Putney at Graphic Nature Audio. All the songs were written and performed (except drums) by the softly spoken, multi-lingual frontman Gagneux, with some German lyrics intermixed with the English.

Speaking about the upcoming album, Gagneux says, “with the self-titled record, we have arrived at where I imagined this project should sound like. It’s the longest we’ve worked on a single record and I believe it shows. The most important thing for an album of ours to do, is transport you instantly into our mood, our world. Even though this might not be the one you might expect from us, this record certainly delivers on that front. We had time to hone in to what we think makes us interesting and what sounds we would like to explore through this we have found our home. Home is burning. Welcome home.”

Alongside the announcement of the new album, the band have released a new song from the upcoming album, Bow. The new song is the third single to be lifted from the upcoming release, following on from Erase and Run.

“Bow takes out established musical themes and places them into a completely different background,” opines Gagneux. “It’s an amalgam of things bestowing bad luck demanding you to join it.”

COGNOS is music and a concept, born from the thirst of creating uneven mixes and sensations rarely found today. A project from no specific country with a line up we prefer to remain unknown.

COGNOS links extreme styles with atmospherical ambients, trying to find the balancing point where Gojira meets Vangelis, Peter Gabriel embraces Coroner or even where Enya converses with Opeth.

With a possible loose resemblance to Devin Townstend, COGNOS pursues to represent the atmosphere and the overwhelming sensation one experiences just before contemplating something that surpasses our very own cognition. A bewildering presence that inexplicably embraces us to travel.
