Not all that many stories we’ve covered from the last two years have been as batshit crazy than what has become Lupe Fiasco’s retirement tour. After finally being liberated from a ”toxic” contract with Atlantic Records in 2015, Lupe was quick to announce he had three more albums he planned on releasing before his retirement. And after failing to release any of the albums in 2016 (all three were initially intended for release last year). After altering the three album titles on numerous occasions, changing the planned album releases from three to two and directly back to three, being accused of anti-semitism, prematurely retiring (and un-retiring)… We might finally have the details on these ever elusive albums.
Last Friday the first of the three albums ”DROGAS Light” hit retailers, and just days later Lupe revealed that he once again intends to release ”DROGAS” (which has already been completed) sometime this year. In addition, the completion of the third (and alleged final) album ”Skulls” is reportedly imminent, also in 2017. All three album releases will be handled by Thirty Tigers under exclusive licensing to 1st & 15th.
