First two albums were fantastic. I consider Emotive to be an EP not an LP and although it had some strong covers and a couple good songs, it was a far lesser album. I fear this will be much more of the same. I got very excited after hearing the doomed, but the next two songs left me wanting. I fear that this album will sound like it is forever building toward a heavy climax but never actually deliver on it.

But it is mostly covers and filler. I know it is an LP technically. I just don’t consider it to be one anymore then Manson’s Smells like children.

I think that both ‘TalkTalk’ and ‘The Doomed’ are absolutely phenomenal songs and although not as good, Disillusioned is solid, as well!! I can’t wait to hear the rest of this very long awaited yet, highly anticipated album!!
I felt the same as you with the first listens, but Disillusioned has grown on me so now it’s my favourite of the trio. That lyrics, man, that lyrics and that bridge.

Whoever wrote the description of this album and the band did an atrocious job.
Surprised by how many are actually looking forward to this. Long time Tool /APC fan here, but none of these singles are good. Everything about this album seems like a huge misfire. Rabid fans will eat it up I suppose, but those wanting more than just sophomoric dick jokes and “risque” political stabs after 14 years will be disappointed.

Gave it two listens, and it’s nothing special. Some decent tracks, but there’s just too much silliness for me to enjoy it that much. Not as bad as I was expecting though. Title track was my favorite.
the album isn’t as bad as you think. if you go into it with low expectations like i did that is. if you listen to it thinking youre getting mer de noms or thirteenth step even…. then its no better then a arcade fire album.
It actually is as bad as I think it is. I wasn’t expecting Mer de Noms or Thirteenth Step. His lyrics have degraded over time as he’s taken his music less serious. This is a Puscifer album basically.

Maynard James Keenan’s no longer able to belt out the vocals the way he once did. Yes his voice is as melodic as ever but because he just cant turn it up to 11 anymore, the whole album just feels like its building towards a climax that never comes. Now, its not a bad album. Its just a sore disappointment after more then 10 years of waiting. If you were hoping for a harken back to Mer De Noms, or even 13step; this will be a big let down for you. The album is much softer and less ambitious then previous outings.
This may be an unpopular opinion but I like this album better than both ‘Thirteenth Step’ & ‘Emotive’. The only complaint I have is a minor one: The album cover is hilariously silly.
i very much share this sentiment. i always thought of APC as being overrated but this album is majestic.

This album is great. For all the 20 somethings who are now old and behind a desk everyday…its a throwback to the squealing guitar solos that used to belt out of the amphitheaters…now concentrated and delivered through expensive headphones. Maynard is a rock n’ roll treasure who speaks truth at every important moment.
