In 2010, Mavis Staples released You Are Not Alone, the great LP produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy. Now, Staples has announced One True Vine, out June 25 via Anti-. It was once again produced by Tweedy, and nearly every instrument on it was played by Tweedy and his son Spencer. It features a cover of Funkadelic's "Can You Get to That."
The album, recorded at Wilco's Loft in Chicago, also features a cover of Low's "Holy Ghost". That track appeared on the band's album The Invisible Way, which was also recorded by Tweedy at the Loft. It also features tracks written by Nick Lowe ("Celestial Shore") and Tweedy ("Jesus Wept") specifically for Staples.
