During the 2013 MTV VMA's, Eminem announced the release of his upcoming album, MMLPII. It will be the sequel to his 2000 album, The Marshall Mathers LP. The Marshall Mathers LP 2 will be the rapper's eighth studio album by American rapper Eminem and will be released through Aftermath Entertainment, Shady Records, and Interscope Records. Production for the album took place during 2011 to 2013, at several recording studios and was handled by various record producers, including himself, Rick Rubin, No ID and Dr. Dre.
Royce da 5'9" appeared on RapFix with his group Slaughterhouse, on August 30, 2012, and talked about what he has heard of the album in the moment. Royce told: "I'm not so sure how the world is going to respond from some of the things that I've heard from him". He also noted that the things he has heard gave him nightmares. Needles to say, this is one of the most anticipated albums of 2013.
Opinions have been split down the middle regarding the two first singles, Berserk and Survival. Listen to Survival below, which also features on the video game soundtrack for Call of Duty: Ghosts.
The track list, which can be found below, reveals the album is going to feature Skylar Grey, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar and Nate Ruess.
best song: Rhyme or Reason
Love Game
Legacy and Headlights
I think we could all agree it would be ‘Rap God’ if it hadn’t been released as a single. That being said I rotate between Rhyme/Headlights/Legacy.
yup
Brainless is up there also! :)
can’t stand kendrick
Official MMLP2 forum thread: https://hasitleaked.com/discussion/topic/mmlp2/
I noticed in the article this guy says ‘Sequel’ to the first mmlp, go back and watch the interview of Eminem talking about this album where he clearly states this album is not a sequel of the first MMLP but a revisit to it, not a sequel. The first MMLP was about his life, how he grew up, he wanted to get stuff of his chest, he doesn’t have that life anymore and he has nothing left to prove. I believe he just wants to sit back and rap now, he has already said everything he needed to say.
This is amazing
Screw this, I’m leaving work 5 minutes early to listen to this sooner.
This album is fuckin great!!! It’s sad to see that there a some ignorant people out there saying Recovery had bad lyricism??? wtf do y’all listen to if Recovery was bad I don’t understand it. “But that’s what they do when they get jealous they confuse it, it’s not hip hop it’s pop cuz I found a hella way to fuse it” y’all some hoes thinking something is pop cuz it’s not a boom clap beat from the 90’s. Eminem knows what he’s doing and I think this album is deff better than recovery, but recovery was awesome. So fuck y’all
By looking at your pic, I can tell that you would like Recovery
As if liking Recovery is an insult? People are entitled to their opinion and likes/dislikes.
By looking at your pic I can tell that you’re ugly cuz you don’t have one..
Headlights is so incredible. Nate Ruess is perfect for this track
Totally agreed
Preordered thirty seconds into the first Trac like FUCK YEAH
This album is amazing, i love it
does anybody have the leak to the deluxe version?
I haven’t been able 2 find it anywhere, a few twitter users said it’s coming on the 31st.
audiocastle has it
So glad we didn’t get another “Paul skit”
It’s worth getting the deluxe version for a duet with Sia.
After hearing the whole album a lot of songs sound like they are off of the original MMLP. Eminem did it again! People better not hate on this album it is honestly perfect. MMLP2 kicks some serious ass and Slim Shady is back!
This album had all the right elements for perfection, one of the biggest things that hit me in this album was the song ” Headlights ” I never expected this from Em, to make a song in a positive way regarding his mother. I actually got a little choked up hearing it the first time. Monster, Love Game, So Far, are just some of my favorites this is literally the best album of the year and upcoming.
album leaked and can be found on kickass torrents.Bad Guy, Legacy, Brainless, Asshole, The Monster, and Stronger Than I Was are tight, and Rap God is i insane…he rips it at 4:30! Lyrical genius for sure, tracks beg for multiple listens to catch everything he says! He apologizes to his mother in Headlights and raps about going to far and how he hates hearing the songs he made dissin her. It’s certainly worthy of the album title! Can’t wait to hear the 5 bonus tracks on the deluxe version.
Agreed, it’s like he revisited the the topics of MMLP, but as a 40 year old man(which he should because he is).
Someone please leak the deluxe version. Can’t make it to 5th
You should check TPB. I’ve seen deluxe version uploaded ~2 hours ago.
this album is a bit soft, like every other song sounds like a love song or something, and the tracks where the women are singing as well are just trash pretty much, holy crap I was waiting for this album and every single track that came out I was defending and saying its just his evolution. I am now disappointed, I hope this isn’t his last album, truly the only ones that were good I believe were just the early released tracks, hes talking about how he can still rip people apart but I dont really see it.
Doesn’t have to be all about ripping other people’s head off to be good.
no but if you wanna call it a sequel to one of the most rigid albums out there then maybe it should have more than one song with some fire in it. its full of songs made by him and some women, and the words arent even impressively put together other than rap god. It disheartens me to say it but its my honest opinion. take a look at songs from the mmlp. Can you honestly say that any songs on this new album can compare to a song like “the way I am” “kill you” “amityville” “kim” “criminal” or even the more pop type songs like ” the real slim shady”? he shoulda just named it a self titled album and not try to raise expectations like it would be another version of mmlp. sorry you dislike my opinion but its hard for me to say, I know his songs by heart and can sing with every verse, just to give you a picture of how much I like his songs.
I couldn’t agree more, I feel exactly the same. Do you remember putting on ‘as the world turns’ ? Wow that track blew me away and ‘i just don’t give a fxxo’!! Real slim shady
yea totally I have liked all his songs really up until this point, even most of infinite.
A big track on this new album is brainless, what you reckon?? I got old old eminem underground cds they cost a lot of money and time to find and they piss all over this new stuff!!
agree
He said it wasn’t a sequel, so you already fail.
Finally another eminem fan on my level. It’s a big shame eminem ain’t killing the tracks anymore!!
i’d like to hear what big artists you think actually DO kill tracks these days. he went in on damn near all of them
This MMLP2 makes The Recovery sound like a classic and I hated that album. I been a Eminem fan since he was underground, he seems to have forgot where he came from andis making pop music. I had a good feeling this album was going to reunite my love for eminem but nope. The tracks that were leaked were decent, so I thought they would of been the weak alnum tracks. Which is what normally happens. No they seem to be the better tracks. Damn pop music and iTunes kids, wouldn’t know music if it bit their asses. Such a cop out. I know I will hear “your not a true fan as you would like his work all the time” that’s bollocks. I like music when it’s good and it makes my hair stand up. I’m a very disappointed fan, It’s sad to say eminems music was better when he was on drugs!!!
Instead of giving good reasons why the album wasn’t good to you, you’re just bitching and complaining like a hipster.
A hipster?!?! The album lacks passion,it’s lyrically weak, silly hooks, poor artists are on it with him ie rihanna, skyla grey. It’s just poor, I’m a massive slim shady fan not this garbage!! Cheers
I thought Em did a great job but everyone has different opinions I guess. By the way, you’re not the only Eminem fan here.
Never said I was the only fan mate, I’ve probly been following eminem before most of the posters were born. Which obviously gives me no more power over any other poster, I’m just putting my voice out just like we all are. I really wanted to like this album but I can’t maybe over time cheers!!
Yeah, a hipster because you are acting ignorant as hell. I didn’t like the special guest tracks but most of the other songs were just like his old work. He writes a few good songs every album and sells it. Don’t understand how fans don’t see that pattern yet.
I don’t know what you mean by hipster. I’m not hear to argue mate, I’m just putting across my view. I like the darksideof eEminem not the pop side. I love him when he rips a track to shreds. Cheers
And if he kept making “dark side” music, you would call him out for not doing something different and how he repeats all of his work. The so called view you have is ignorant and rude. Cheers
I can’t see howiI’m rude or ignorant, nevermind. I like it when it’s more aggressive and passionate, I wouldnt moan about him not changing his style. I love eminems work with Dre. This for me was just poor. Plus you don’t have to be iinsulting. Cheers
This is what i’m talking about being rude -> “Damn pop music and iTunes kids, wouldn’t know music if it bit their asses.” I can at least agree with you some of the tracks on the album are weak, lyrics are what kept them alive(besides The Monster, that was awful)
Ok I guess I was a little harsh. It’s just kids nowadays don’t understand where eminem and music come from. I remember running to the shop to buy up in smoke and watching all the time. For me this was when music was real and very talented, nnowadays it’s just cheesy hooks and soft llovely tunes, I like to jump in my car and blast out a heavy tune with a big 808 drum and heavy snare and cruise unfortunately I can’t do this anymore with this type of music. Cheers
I agree, today it is less about the quality, and more about the mindfunking message/popularity based on views.itunes sales, which are based on GARBAGE ASS HOOKS ETC. like “we can’t top and we won’t stop/ the monster under my bed in my funking head, these voices etc” ALL OF THESE SAID HOOKS are flagrantly satanic so much so that its a joke on the listener
IT IS YOUR OPINION DUDE
that ain’t “rude” thats “Real” he is point blank calling out the fact that these new age millenial clowns think we can’t stop/ and the rap equivalent the monster ARE GOOD TRACKS, at some point people need to stop bobbing their heads to their own stupidity, BOTH TRACKS ARE GARBAGE, millenials think garbage is good music based on itune/yotube popularity
Dude, calm the fuck down. Quit jumping to a fucking conclusion. You are the fine example of why fan bases are childish. “I DON’T LIKE SOMETHING THAT MEANS ITS STUPID AND ANYONE THAT LIKES IT IS STUPID AND DEAF!” <- That is you, fucking childish.
To be honest what you have posted describes you all over. You have attackedand abused many for their personal views, without any reasoning. Don’t be so up tight with life dude.
No, when you act like anyone that likes the album is stupid and deaf, you have a narrow view. I’m open with life, I can accept an opinion as long as you don’t sound like a ignorant fuckwit. Also, why reply to something that isn’t directed at you? Nevermind, no point in arguing with someone that is arguing with everyone else on this album comment section (Yeah, I see you commenting on other stuff)
the popside on recovery was semi-ill but what happened on “the monster” has me thinking this is not the Eminem I want to hear
he ripped Bad Guy to absolute pieces
you think berzerk, survival, rap god, and the monster are GOOD??? when compared with the charisma he displayed on drug funked records of the past??? I haven’t heard the whole thing yet so I won’t get carried away but sometimes you gotta accept when something IS SH1T IT IS SH1T
I hate the first part of Berzerk, the rest is good. Survival is ok. Rap god is amazing, and the monster sucks. And if you haven’t heard it all yet, why the hell are you trying to start something with me? Logic
Berzerk is horrible, Survival is Epic and Rap god is amazing, stop trolling, go listen to Drake or Lil’ Wayne and sincerely Fuck off
survival is awful shouldn’t be on the record, berzerk is bad, rap god is not that good, and the monster sounds like a commercial for the real housewives, that being said, he redeemed himself I hadn’t heard the album when I posted, the majority of everything else is excellent
I heard the whole thing, he redeemed himself, its absolutely fantastic 3 of the singles are trash and one is overly pop but decent, the album as a whole incl the always dope bonus tracks is VERY IMPRESSIVE
skyler grey did a fantastic job on asshole, she was perfect
Ok
I haven’t heard it yet, will listen later, and I will agree with you from a standpoint of by comparison to his old work relapse/recovery included his first 4 singles off this album were borderline awful and unimpressive, I believe your review of the album a lot more than these idiot clowns who don’t understand what quality is, and I will see in a couple of hours just how bad it really is, this ain’t about “hipster” this is about realism, and the FACT is berzerk, survival, rap god, and the monster funking SUCK, I’m assuming the rest will be equally as bad
Guys does anyone know at the start of Evil Twin, where that has been sampled from? It’s reminding me of a song so much doing my head in
Does anyone know at the start of Evil Twin what sample track that is from?
Wolfgang Düren’s “Eyeless Dream I”.
has the deluxe version leaked?
Stop it haterz… You can feel the emotion in every single track and honestly, pop or not, he’s being real. He’s Em. Great songs and what else do you want? Go produce your own dark shit if prefer it that way.
Wow… Didn’t think it was possible but MMLP2 lived up to the expectations! Every song on the album gives me the chills. Such perfect songs that are lyrically insane and others being beautiful having such deep meaning. Looks likes Slim Shady and Eminem are finally on common ground. All hail the rap god!
Slim shady was not seen anywhere on this album believe me. Do you on infinite or slim shady ep? Even the outsidez album or the hip hip shop mixtapes?? That’s slim shady!!
You’re entitled to your opinion and I agree with you to a point I guess since that’s the real Slim Shady. I’m just saying that we haven’t even seen Slim Shady in the slightest form for a while now. Some people could say his Bad Meets Evil stuff is Slim but I don’t really agree. I think the last time we saw Slim Shady at all was on Relapse and that was a long ass time ago.
This album lived up to the hype. Hopefully it’s not the last.
the album did, the bonus tracks did, the singles did not
Agreed, I was worried about this album after hearing the singles leading up to it. Rap God started to grow on me, though.
easily the best thing he’s put out since the eminem show
