I’ve been impressed by how locked down a lot of the more mid-level releases have been lately, this one included. I’ve got the vinyl pre-ordered but I’m chomping at the bit for a taste.

I know this album is locked down tight. I’m really hoping that it leaks soon, probably on the 5th or 4th from people overseas.

It’s too bad they don’t focus more on Michaels voice. I know Volbeat is a Metal band but honestly: One thing that makes Volbeat special is his Rock’n’Rollish voice.

Especially in “sad man’s tongue” you can hear his Elvis-like vocal hiccup and Cash-like cheek-shaking singing techniques.

Does somebody know if there will be more stuff like that on the new album?

Hmm will have to wait for the countryish tracks like The Sinner Is You, The Lonesome Rider, etc. But honestly its a terrific album so far. I really couldn’t say until we get the studio cd with the high quality. Hopefully it leaks soon.

Agree. That is honestly one of the things that makes Volbeat such a unique band. There really isn’t anything else out there that I’ve found that comes even close to replicating their vibe.

Well Cape of Our Hero and Hangman’s Body Count are on youtube for you to check out. Lola Montez, Pearl Hart, Black Bart, and Doc Holliday were on Youtube but keep getting taken down. You might be able to find Room 24, unless its gone. If you have Sirius radio, they are playing all of the these 7 songs on 37 Octane, 40 Liquid Metal and sometimes 38 Boneyard. If you don’t, its coming out overseas in two days, so it will leak soon! Besides, if you heard the songs now, most of them (except Hangman and Cape) are a half step up for copyright reasons, so no one has probably heard the official studio versions of them yet. 2 days for overseas, 5 for world, 6 for U.S, its coming man!

Yeah my account got terminated because of those videos lol. I tried, I’ve started my account again. This album is so locked up I’m really surprised, and can’t wait for the 6 songs I need to hear. Already got 9 in iTunes.

i’m including Cape of Our Hero and Hangman in there. So in total I have
Pearl Hart, Nameless One, Dead But Rising, Cape, Room 24, Hangman, Lola Montez, Black Bart and Doc Holliday.

Still need to hear My Body, Lonesome Rider, Our Loved Ones and Ecotone and I guess Let’s Shake Some Dust as well, not a song though.

For this album, I love how the songs about Shady Ladies (Pearl Hart & Lola Montez) are light spirited and like amazing. Outlaw Gentlemen (Doc Holliday & Black Bart) are heavy and killer tracks. Their best yet, no one will be disappointed!

Ahh I hate that some people are expecting this to be a damn bleeding heavy album. Yes they make kick ass metal songs, but also do rockabilly and rock very good as well, so if you are looking for 15 songs of pure heavy metal, this isn’t for you. Volbeat fans will probably love it to death, hoping this damn thing leaks soon!

I don’t know why you ‘hate’ that. They made their name as a metal band that also dabbled in other things. A lot of people who have followed them since the beginning pegged them to possibly be the next huge hard rock/metal band similar to Metallica. I for one think if they would have broken out around their first or second record instead of at the end of their last they would of had a better chance to break out huge. Let me premise what I’m about to say by saying that Volbeat is one of my favorite bands and has been for 7-8 year, but from what I’ve heard off of this album I think they are reaching too much and getting a bit gimmicky. They had the perfect sound on their first 3 albums.

I don’t know why I put that, its just I hear a lot of people bashing it for not being metal. Agreed, with them being pegged, I just would have thought people would have set their gaze a little wider to their other styles of music. What songs did you hear off of OG & SL? I suppose everyone has their own taste, their style is changing up a bit, and I like it( even if others dont)

Yeah they did, definitely and I think they still are. I think every great band has had a other side to them as well though. Change is good and I think this album has some of the heaviest songs they’ve done and the lightest. Which they’ve mentioned themselves. Volbeat is still Volbeat, but to me what is changing my perception is live show and there setlists lately. They have been really catering to the Beyond Hell, Warrior’s Call and Still Counting fans which I think sucks for us hardcores.

I mean, I guess they have some of their heavier stuff on this album but for whatever reason I think they are taking this spaghetti western thing. I guess the thing that really bothers me is that if they would have just stayed the course as their first three albums that they would be a no brainer for becoming huge. People just needed to hear them. Do you know how many people I turned on to them before their last album just by having them listen to them once. I just have a feeling that they are going down the please everyone rout which NEVER works.

What songs have you heard from the new album to make that judgement?

            April 4, 2013 at 3:01 am

I’ve heard most if not all of the leaked songs. Doc Holliday is getting a lot of pub but to me the lyrics and the Oohh, Aahh part is cheesy. They are pushing the western thing too far. And I’m sorry I just can’t stand Cape. To a fan of the band since the beginning this song is a farce to me. Just a blatantly bad radio soft track that sounds NOTHING like anything they’ve done before…in a bad way. And Lola, My Body, Pearl are kinda blah. Not really hearing the grooves that made them who they are today like Caroline 1&2, A Moment Forever, H. Goat, Pool of Booze and others. It sounds like they’ve adapted or lost their sound a bit.

How often did Michael tell that he’s a big fan of Johnny Cash? He even wears Elvis buckles and his hair slicked back with pomade. Furthermore their logo is a skull with an Elvis pompadour and in allready in 2001 when Michael founded Volbeat they had those country music tunes. How could anybody think they would be a pure 100% metal band?

yeah sorry I forgot the Sinner Is You. And I got the Nameless One and Dead But Rising from them playing it on Sirius. They’ve only played it a few times so far so I was lucky to have caught it when I did.

Either you love it or you hate it, I pretty much love every song I’ve heard so far, so it should be all good and Volbeat will do it again. Perhaps their setlist will change after OG&SL comes out and they might add older songs? And how do they sound?

Exactly! As a Volbeat fan I believe this in line with what they should be doing. Hopefully it will, and mostly likely I think it will. They sound amazing live, I’m actually going to see them in 4 days but the last 4 times I’ve seen them, unreal live show! They are real musicians and showman. Never disappoint me thats for sure.

So I was messing around on the internet looking for Volbeat’s album. I heard they would be releasing clips of the songs until it came out. I went to the top 10 itunes rock songs, and in Finland, Hangman’s Body Count is number 1. So I looked at Volbeat’s stuff in Finland on Itunes, and it seems that Doc Holliday and Pearl Hart are gonna be singles(unless they are just for the clips until the release day). They even have the pictures for them like Cape and Hangman do. So go there if you want a real, deep fresh taste of Doc or Pearl, because those are the legit studio versions

I got an email on Tuesday from Napalm Records to confirm my vinyl pre-order. They said that they were still awaiting the shipment and that it would be sent out as soon as the received it. So they have clearly done a great job of delaying the delivery of the physical product to stores until the last possible moment. Today is the day though, I can feel it!

Yes, hopefully mine ships today too, gotta make it across the pond. I fell in love with this band when I heard rock the rebel / metal the devil. For me the hit their best stride with Guitar Gangsters. Beyond Heaven was less consistent although it had some great songs. Haven’t been floored by the only two songs I’ve heard so far (Cape and Hangman), but I still have high hopes that it will all come together in the full album sequence.

Thank you. That’s how I feel. An honest opinion from another fan. You don’t have to blindly love everything your favorite band puts out to be concidered a true fan. I just wish they would have kept their sound from the first 3 records. Not too blown away by the new stuff.
