This is it, the highly anticipated fourth studio album by Marina Diamandis, and her first release as “MARINA”, following the decision to drop “and the Diamonds” from her stage name. She confirmed on BBC Radio 1 that the first single off her the unnamed upcoming studio album would be released in February 2019, which now we know is "Handmade Heaven", accompanied by a music video. The album is set to be released the following summer.
This will be her first album since the release of FROOT in 2015 and after a short break from the spotlight, in which she took a Psychology course, wrote an online journal/diary (marinabook.co.uk) and released some eventual singles with Clean Bandit (i.e.: "Disconnect" and "Baby", the latter featuring Luis Fonsi).
Regarding the name-change, it's linked to a new-era-kickstart, in which it’s taken her a serious dose of contemplation to reach that point, and not without some repercussions. Her name change was quietly announced on Twitter back in 2018, and it threw the "Diamonds" (her fans' nickname) into a frenzy, it may be said. It wasn’t an attack on them – but a simply misread motive. “It took me well over a year to figure out that a lot of my identity was tied up in who I was as an artist,” she says of her new name, “and there wasn’t much left of who I was.” And so, the effervescent project transformed into something more simple.
