Rosalía MOTOMAMI

Three years after debuting el "El Mal Querer" (her sophomore album), one of the most praised works in music in Spanish in recent times, catalan singer Rosalía announced the debut of “Motomami“, the third studio album of her career. Since then, singles like "Con Altura" (feat. J Balvin & El Guincho), "Aute Cuture", and "A Palé" have been feeding her fans, in expectation of her next release.

In a Zoom radio station press conference, when asked about a possible single compilation or box set, Rosalía expressed total rejection to the idea explaining that "I don't really enjoy singles that are collections of singles. I usually enjoy records that tell a story and that are alive and a lot of thinking. I am totally against the first idea". She also stated that she was "trying really hard to release a new project this year but all of the singles you've heard so far won't be included. As a musician I feel the responsibility to release a cohesive album, one that makes sense; one in where the songs are linked and share an essence. In conclusion, I want to make an album that makes sense as you listen to it as a whole".

Now, in a glitter-filled teaser and poses over high heels, the artist stamped the calendar and said the project arrives in 2022.

Rosalía stated that the album's title is confected as a non-accepted binominal. She chose to name her album like that because it "is structured in binaries, two types of contrasting energy". She also explained that the album will be "separated in two parts". Moto is the most divine, experimental, frictional and strong part of the album, while Mami is the realest, most personal, confessional and vulnerable part. Rosalía also stated that "feminism is implicit in the intention. It is very much present in some songs, and maybe not some much in some others, because in the end, it's all the emotional journey of the ups and downs an artist can take. There's a lot of my day-to-day life that's why this vindication of women and femininity are implicit". Rosalía hopes Motomami "provides a feminist counterbalance to misogyny in music".

In 2020, Pharrell Williams spoke to the Othertone podcast that he was "blown away by the title" and by "how well Rosalía knows herself", and expressed that he is "honoured to be a part of it".

The title also references the company her mother Pilar Tobella runs, Motomami S.L., which administrates activities around artist representation.

There's been some rumors about the songs to be released on Rosalía's new album. Some say it'll be released on March 18th, with a February 4th announcement. There's no official tracklist, but an unnoficial-secret-twitter-posted-by-Rosalía list been around, with the tracks such as "Tego", "La Combi Versace", "Diablo", "Hentai" (which has been around Rosalía's Tiktok), "Olvidao", "Delirio (Delirio de Grandeza)", "Genís", "La Fama" (the only official single by now), "Aislamiento", "Iaia", "La Pistola", "Vamo' Allá", "Bizcochito", "Motomami", "Chicken Teriyaki", "Lax", "Sakura", "Dinero y Libertad", & "Orgullo". These are sub-divided with a triangle or a circle sign, indicating the two-part album.

On a separated Instagram account (@holamotomami), back in May 2021, she posted some tracks to be mixed in a white board, reading "Sako", "666", "Bulerías", "Delirio", "Bizcochito", "Candy", "La Fama", "Como 1G", "Genís", "Hentai", "Cuuuuuuute", "La Kombi", "Aislamiento", & "Vamo' Allá", and crossed ones "Motomami", "Chicken Teriyaki", "Sakura", "Iaia", & "Tego".

So, we can expect some of these tracks to be released on MOTOMAMI, maybe 16 of them, as there's a count from 1 to 16 in the Instagram account bio.
