Nemertines - is a solo project of Russian musician and artist Sergey Sabrin, aka Sabrina Scissor. Style of the project is of an experimental nature, it combines elements of such genres as math-metal, djent, progressive-metal and ambient. However, the following fan-topper of unknown authorship gives one of the most accurate portraits of the musical style: «A child of Korn and Meshuggah».
The name itself comes from Latin "nemertea" - general scientific name, combining multiple species of ribbon worms - scavengers and carnivores emitting large amounts of mucus: "I was amazed by the description of these worms, and their name sounded wonderful to me".
This project officially exists since 2009: specifically this year was marked with the first official release, which amounted to a massive exhaust of the material into the social networks (album "Cut"). However, the actual uprise of Nemertines happened much earlier: since 2004 more than a dozen of albums were created, however they are not included into the official discography of the project and have never been released to a wide audience.
The music of Nemertines has undergone a fair amount of transformations in the course of the project existence. These transformations have affected sound quality and method of creation as well as project's specific genre nature. Up until 2012 Nemertines was absolutely 'virtual’: all the instruments were simulated by the means of computer program until the moment when key board capabilities have completely ceased to satisfy the author's requirements regarding sound quality. That is when single "Fallen" comes out - the first track ever with live guitar and simultaneously the first vocal experiment, taken quite controversially: up until this moment, Nemertines remained solely instrumental. Hereupon vocal tryouts have been abandoned for quite a while (with a single exception of the track "You Are" from the album "Full Black", 2013) and were resumed only in 2014 in the form of three tracks on the album homonymous to the name of the project; Sergey engaged independent vocalists to work on it.
In 2013 with the help of Canadian record label -Subliminal Groove Records - for the first time, it became possible to release albums on physical media. "Death, My Love", 2013 - was the first one that 'materialized', "Nemertines", 2014 followed, the author himself though claims that two CDs - is just the beginning. Disks are produced in Canada, and their covers are the works of talented Sergey.
Nemertines sticks out due to not only the stylistic specifity and peculiar vibe, but also the frequency of releases, at the same time, this fact does not affect the quality of music material or records whatsoever.
