The new site looks good, only thing I’m not big on is the wasted space on entering an album page. 90% of the page is white and you weirdly get the album cover when scrolling almost past the cover.

The most pertinent info, did it leak and who reported it, is given on a large grey bar and then more white space follows with album info and a sidebar. The sidebar gives the same info but further down the page, but you wouldn’t even need one or the other if there wasn’t so much wasted space…what was good about the first iteration of the site was that everything was fairly condensed and all important information was easily accessible.

Has there been any thought to changing this layout? I mean, I have a large monitor, and almost all the screenspace is taken by the album verdict…

You could save so much space by condensing all the info in the sidebar and allow it to share space with the album cover and have that black grey bar be at the bottom of it. Everything is right there when you click the page. Comments feel so far down, I haven’t even see what it’ll do to the page with a lot of comments.

A few quick thoughts upon seeing the site.

Thanks for that. Agree we could utilize space a bit more so less scrolling. Will pass this along up the ladder.

    Hey @deltrigger

Almost all websites are crammed filled with content, where all space is utilized. I was inspired by magazines who use space to highlight text and images. I wanted something which felt more calm, where a cover, text or rating gets highlighted on its own.

This obviously has a downside, like you mention – It creates a lot of scrolling. I added a quick info summary on the right, next to the cover, to give the user a quick “has it leaked or not” answer.

While the space is a design choice, and is subjective. I do feel that you’ve got a valid point regarding the cover not being seen as you scroll past it – And the rating might have a bit of unnecessary space below it. I’m taking it in, I’ll figure something out.

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback, this is what we need!

There’s a magnifying glass in the top right, next to your avatar image. It expands to a search bar when you click on it.

Speaking of wasted space, let’s do away with the header that takes up 50% (or close to 100% on a smaller screen) of the homepage

@hasitleakedbum That home page header, or the art, is going to be there for 25 days.

Is this a music site or an art gallery?

The Album Calendar looks great, but what would make it even greater is if it could integrate your hyped albums so you can see when all the albums you really care about are going to be released. Just a suggestion.

I personally like the arty look of the site. I think it looks very clean and original. Great work on the revamp!

I personally love the new design. I think HIL was always “arty”, but the new colour scheme is much more sophisticated and the homepage header is definitely fitting. The Album Calendar is excellent, one of my favourite additions.
I do agree about utilising space though, there seems to be a lot of scrolling on both the homepage and the album pages, but it seems like that’s already addressed above :)
